If you were hoping to buy a new car but COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works, don’t worry. You can still purchase the car of your dreams remotely, and maybe even score a discount.

Various auto manufacturers have introduced new online purchasing methods and contactless delivery for their Australian customers so that even during lockdown, you can attend a virtual showroom appointment or conduct a test drive from home, and even get your new car delivered straight to your front door.

Some of the manufacturers offering online purchasing or servicing include Audi, Volkswagen, Subaru, Mini Australia, Isuzu and Ford, with more joining the line-up.

Many dealers are also doing the same, offering contactless purchasing, virtual handovers, video calls and contactless home delivery.

Audi Australia announced a new online platform and delivery service that makes all of its current models available for its customers. On this platform, customers can choose to do a virtual walkaround of the car, customise the vehicle, reserve a car with a refundable $500 deposit and organise a test drive where a representative will bring the car directly to the customer’s home, following all the necessary sanitation procedures. Once the transaction is completed, the car will then be delivered straight to the customer’s front door.

Similarly, Subaru Australia recently announced that it will also provide home deliveries and contactless pick up and drop off for services, in addition to the virtual showroom appointments, home test drives and allowing some software updates to be performed online.

Despite the lockdown, now has never been a better time to buy a new car. After a massive drop in new car sales in April 2020 – which saw a 48.5% decline in sales vs. March 2020 – some brands are offering steep discounts on their cars in an effort to boost sales during lockdown.

BMW recently registered hundreds of demonstrator models and company cars which means a large number of barely used cars can be expected at BMW dealers in the next few months. So if you’re looking to snag a BMW, keep an eye out for a great deal coming your way!

Other makes and models, such as the Renault Megane RS, Toyota Hilux, Ford Everest and Fiat Abarth 595 have been discounted, with some manufacturers offering cashback deals in addition to the discounted prices.
