Okay, we tricked you a little bit there.
Mitsubishi have set tongues wagging today with the release of an image and details for an upcoming concept car – titled the e-Evolution.
Of course, you don’t have to be a car expert to know the connotations the Evo name carries along with it, but it’s safe to say that Mitsubishi’s concept isn’t quite the rally-bred monster that its namesakes traditionally were over the last 2 decades or so.
Previously reserved for its famous line of Lancer sedans, Mistubishi have brought back the Evolution name in what they’ve called a a “low-slung, highly-aerodynamic SUV Coupe.” Naturally, the “e” in front of the name also indicates that it’s going to continue the trend of electric concept cars being released at this year’s motor shows.
Destined to be unveiled at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in late October, the e-Evolution is set to pack an all-electric powertrain, along with “advanced Artificial Intelligence technology.” Of course, we don’t know exactly what this means, but many are being led to believe that this refers to some sort of self-driving capability.
The launch of the e-Evolution concept is going to be one small part of Mistubishi’s step into the future. While it’s previously trailed rivals like Nissan and Toyota in the release of advanced driving technology, Mitsubishi say they’re finally ready to showcase its “new era of sustainable development”. We’re yet to see what this means, but more will be revealed as Mitsubishi take centre stage at Tokyo next month.
Stay tuned for more.
